Lead Authentically, Not Perfectly

“Perfection isn’t the goal—purpose is.”
If you’re anything like me, you’ve worn the mask of perfection more times than you can count. Perfectionism once tried to run my leadership—and nearly ran me into the ground. I was checking every box, performing for approval, and still feeling like I wasn’t doing enough. Sound familiar?
Here’s the truth I wish I embraced sooner: You don’t have to be perfect to be powerful.
God never called us to lead flawlessly. He called us to lead faithfully. The people who follow you aren’t looking for perfection; they’re looking for realness. They want to know that their leader has scars, doubts, prayers whispered through tears—and still gets back up.
Here’s what authenticity looks like:
Admitting when you don’t have all the answers
Leading with grace instead of fear
Bringing your whole self into the room, not just the polished parts
When you lead authentically, you give others permission to do the same. You create spaces where vulnerability isn’t weakness—it’s a bridge to connection.
“People don’t connect with perfection—they connect with your process.”

As a leader, I know you carry a lot. I know you want to get it “right.” But leadership isn’t about always having it together—it’s about trusting God to hold it together when you can’t.
Give yourself permission to lead from who you are, not who you think you have to be. Your authenticity is your anointing.
With love and realness,
Belinda
Reflection Questions:
What parts of my leadership have been driven by the need to appear perfect?
Where can I lead more honestly without fear of judgment?
How can I create a culture where others feel safe to show up authentically?
